The story opens when one of Hal Shelburn's sons, Petey, finds a stuffed toy in a cardboard box - a monkey complete with clashing cymbals and a manical grin. Hal immediately feels uneasy and frightened, frantically telling his son to leave it alone. You immediately senses that something is not right with this toy and your suspicions are confirmed when Hal speaks to the toy monkey: “You can’t be here – I threw you down the well when I was nine.” Every time when Hal tried to get rid of the monkey, it kept coming back. Now, after twenty years, the monkey has returned. Hal has to get rid of it for good this time - before anyone else he loves succumbs to the monkey's evil.
